Criteria for Certification
All of these must be met in order for Just My Doc to certify you for medical cannabis
I DO NOT have any strong personal or family history of psychosis.
Studies have suggested that people with a predisposition to psychosis can be triggered to develop long term detrimental psychological effects from using cannabis. Psychosis refers to a history of losing touch with reality and includes any symptoms of schizophrenia or mania. However, we can offer you an alternative treatment plan that has less risk to your mental health through our In Depth Consultation.

I AM NOT pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning on becoming pregnant, while using products containing THC.
There are some studies that have shown that use of cannabis during pregnancy and breastfeeding can lead to adverse birth outcomes such as low birth weight in babies and developmental/neurological issues such as impaired attention and learning disabilities for children. Any issues with development may be present at birth, but only apparent once the child grows older. For these reasons, we do not certify medical cannabis for anyone known to fit the above criteria.

However, we do offer our In Depth Consultation to help to develop alternative treatment plans that are safer for your current or future baby.

I DO NOT have any severe cardiovascular disorders
These include any history of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, ischemic strokes, unstable arrhythmias, poorly controlled high blood pressure, and severe heart failure. Some studies have shown that the risk of heart attack is several times higher than normal in the hour after smoking cannabis and may increase the long-term death rate among heart attack survivors.

But what if I only have a mild cardiovascular condition?
Then medical cannabis may still be a viable treatment option for your as long as your risk factors are properly addressed (i.e. getting the blood pressure under control, starting beta blockers or other anti-arrhythmia medications, optimizing treatment for mild heart failure). This can be managed by your primary care physician or your cardiologist. Additionally, you may schedule an In Depth Consultation with our physician to identify and start management for these conditions. If you optimize and stay on stable treatment for your cardiovascular condition for more than 1 month, then we may proceed to certify you for medical cannabis.
