In order to obtain a medical card in Pennsylvania, you will need a valid PA Driver's License or State ID card. You will also need a valid address in Pennsylvania (for the card to be mailed to), as well as an email address that you have access to. You will need the email address in order to create your Department of Health Patient Portal account - and will need access to it in case you forget your username or password on the Department of Health Patient Portal. Just My Doc assists Pennsylvania residents with qualifying medical conditions in obtaining their medical cannabis cards through the PA Medical Marijuana Program by connecting them with licensed physicians via same-day phone calls. Acquiring a certification is one of the requirements for accessing dispensaries in PA.

Appointments can be scheduled through our user-friendly online booking system. We typically offer same-day appointments with extended hours on the nights and weekends to accommodate busy schedules. Unfortunately, we do not accept bookings via phone.

Upon successful booking, you will receive a confirmation email from Just My Doc containing instructions to complete other state requirements before your appointment. Please follow these instructions and visit the state portal. If you experience any issues, call the state helpdesk at 888-733-5595 for assistance. Their team is available to assist you seven days a week, from 7 am to 9 pm.

The physician will call you at the provided number at your scheduled time, ask questions to confirm your health conditions, and assess if medical cannabis is a suitable treatment.

If deemed appropriate for the program, the physician will certify you through the state portal, and you will receive an email confirmation.

The physician will also verify that you have met other state requirements as per our email instructions. Though Just My Doc does not issue cards, we strive to prevent common reasons for delays, such as unpaid state fees or incorrect addresses in the portal, to ensure patients receive their cards without any unnecessary delays.

To get your medical card for the first time in PA, you must meet these requirements:

- Be a current resident of Pennsylvania and have a valid PA state-issued ID card or driver's license

- Meet the health criteria to use cannabis safely

- Have a qualifying condition that cannabis has been approved to treat.

Then you must follow these steps:

1. Register a profile with the state medical marijuana portal

2. Schedule an Initial Certification appointment with one of our specially licensed physicians who can certify you to obtain a state medical card.

3. Pay/waive a yearly state fee of $50 through the state medical marijuana portal. (For first-time patients, this option is only available AFTER you receive your certification from a physician. You can find it under the "Make a Payment" tab.)

To renew your medical cannabis card annually, you must pay/waive another state fee and obtain another physician certification

(Can be paid up to 30 days before the one year anniversary of when you last paid)

To do this, log in to your state portal and click "Make a Payment" in the menu. If the page displays "No payment is due at this time" in red, you don't owe any fees. Otherwise, follow the instructions to waive or pay the $50 state fee. While logged in, click "Profile Settings" in the menu and scroll down to ensure your address is up-to-date for the card to be sent to.

Physician Certification

(Can be submitted up to 60 days before the expiration date on your card) Next, you need a physician certification confirming that cannabis is beneficial for your condition. In PA, medical cannabis certification is an authorization that a doctor submits through an online portal to the PA Medical Marijuana Program. This can only be done by physicians licensed by the State of Pennsylvania and specifically certified by the Department of Health. The certificate states that a particular person has a qualifying disease for which cannabis is an appropriate treatment. After receiving the certificate, the patient is entitled to receive a state medical cannabis card which they can take to any dispensary in Pennsylvania.

If you have been diagnosed with one of the 24 qualifying conditions in Pennsylvania, then you are legally eligible for medical cannabis. Persons under the age of 18 may qualify if they have a parent or guardian registered as a caregiver in association. with their DOH account. We do require a waiver of liability to be signed by the parent of any minors prior to certification so please send us an email prior to booking an appointment for a minor.

During your consultation with the certifying physician, you will be asked some questions to ensure that you are medically appropriate to participate in the medical marijuana program. There are some circumstances in which cannabis use is not recommended.

If you do not have a diagnosed condition, but still believe cannabis can help with your symptoms, you can schedule a risk-free combined Diagnosis/Initial Certification appointment. During this appointment, the physician can determine if you have conditions like anxiety or chronic pain. Rest assured, you'll receive a full refund if you don't end up qualifying.

You should schedule an initial certification if you have never had a medical card before or if this is your first time getting one in Pennsylvania.

You should schedule a renewal appointment if your current medical card has either already expired or is about to expire within the next 60 days. You can still schedule a renewal with Just My Doc even if your card has already expired or you were previously certified by another physician.

Yes, we are able to fill out "reasonable accommodation" forms for patients certified through Just My Doc. Due to the extra time usually required for information gathering and reviewing the forms, you will need to schedule a Form Filling appointment with your certifying physician.

Prior to the appointment, you must scan and email the paperwork to forms@justmydoc.com so that the doctor may have them ready. Please let us know if there are any special instructions for sending back the completed form - some employers prefer it to be faxed or emailed directly to them.

During this appointment, the doctor will gather the necessary medical history and information from you to accurately complete these forms. They will check with you to make sure the form answers are filled out to your satisfaction and then send the form back to you or your employer by the end of the appointment.

Unfortunately, we do not fill out forms without a dedicated appointment. This is because we must do our due diligence to ensure a safe workplace for everyone involved. However, we do provide a free generic office letter stating the basic details of your certification. You may request this by emailing letters@justmydoc.com.

As of Jan 2026, the cards have been taking 2-5 days to arrive in the mail.

Unfortunately, there is no option to expedite the card shipment.
